- When you first receive your VOD it is necessary to activate it. Also during the lifetime of the VOD you will need to renew the licence and you may need to add credits. You will need the VODStick to activate the VOD, renew the licence and add credits.
These 3 activities function by writing a key file to the VODStick which you have to email to Videotel. In response, Videotel will use your key file and create a return key file which is emailed back to you. The VODStick will carry the key file between your VOD and your ship’s email computer, where it is attached to an email to send to Videotel, vice versa when you receive an email from Videotel.
For your information, the key file is a small encrypted computer file containing details of your VOD, and is used by Videotel to verify your requests and returns instruction to your VOD. - Many of the videos have accompanying support books. You can use the VODStick to print these books. You can see the books by clicking the ’View Book’ when it appears. This opens the book on screen. You can send a PDF copy of the book to your VODStick by typing ‘control + p’. To print, take the VODStick to a computer with a printer attached.
- The VODStick can also be used to print certificates from the tests included in CBTs and courses. It can also be used to print records and training reports from the Onboard Training Manager (OTMplus). Clicking the appropriate button will send a copy to the VODStick.
