Module 3.5: Passenger Ship Surveys
As a result of successfully completing this Module you will:

  1. Be aware of the importance of subdivision for both survivability in a damaged condition and for fire protection purposes.
  2. Understand the structural requirements that will help provide the necessary passive fire protection.
  3. Understand some of the test procedures employed to ensure that all materials used on board meet the relevant specifications for flame spread, toxicity, etc.
  4. Understand the principles underlying the fire detection systems.
  5. Understand the requirements for the various active fire protection systems that may be installed on the ship.
  6. Understand the requirements regarding evacuation systems including the emergency alarm and the public address systems.
  7. Be familiar with all the regulations concerning life saving appliances.
