INTRODUCTION TO LIQUIFIED GAS CARRIERS (EDITION 2)

Video Running Time: 30 minutes

VIDEO BOOK CBT

Among the most specialised ships trading today are the liquefied gas carriers. They have very specific cargo containment and cargo handling systems. This training package, comprising video and supporting book, provides an introduction to these ships, their cargoes, and their safety systems. It is designed to support training as required by STWC Section A-V/1.

The video has ten sections. These include a section on the physics of the liquefied gases and sections on each of the most common types of gas carrier: fully-pressurised, semipressurised, fully-refrigerated and LNG ships. There are further sections on ship safety, personal safety and cargo operations.

The video uses extensive graphics to explain and demonstrate the principles and practices of carrying liquid gas cargoes. The links between the design of the ship and the type of cargo are made clear. To help explain this, extensive reference is made to the Saturated Vapour Pressure diagrams of the various cargoes. Many practical aspects of cargo operations are examined and discussed to give those who are unfamiliar with these vessels a good basic understanding of them.

Great emphasis is placed on the importance of safety in the design and the operation of these ships. The value of understanding the reasons for the various cargo operations is also stressed. Mention is made of the IMO IGC Code that provides the legislative framework that is the basis of the design of these ships.
