NEW VIDEOTEL COURSE AIMS TO INSTIL HIGH LNG CREW STANDARDS

24 October 2007

Videotel has released a computer-based training (CBT) course that educates deck and engineering officers serving on LNG tankers to comply with the competence standards of the Society of International Gas Tanker & Terminal Operators(SIGTTO).

LNG Training Course - Meeting SIGTTO Competency Guidelines responds to the continuing growth of the world LNG fleet and associated crew requirements by helping users achieve the competency required in a range of onboard tasks according to individual crew responsibilities. Training progress is recorded and a Videotel Course Completion Certificate is available to users upon successful course completion.

The new course provides users with sufficient knowledge and understanding of the duties they are likely to undertake on board, enabling them to fulfil the tasks assigned to them safely and efficiently. It is designed for self-study and for use at sea, although it can be undertaken ashore.

LNG Training Course - Meeting SIGTTO Competency Guidelines comprises the following training modules:

  • Fundamental knowledge and understanding
  • Equipment
  • Support systems
  • Standard operations
  • Non-standard and emergency operations
  • Commercial considerations

Available on CD-ROM, the program contains text with optional English language voiceover, still photographs, video clips and animations. Videotel will shortly provide the course via its online portal at www.videoteltraining.com.

LNG Training Course - Meeting SIGTTO Competency Guidelines requires no specific previous training. However, before serving on an LNG tanker, candidates should have completed a recognised first stage familiarisation course, such as Videotel's Tanker Familiarisation. The more specialised Gas Tanker Safety course, also available from Videotel, is a requirement for those with cargo duties.
