AWARDING EXCELLENCE
26 February 2008
Videotel’s commitment to continually meet training needs has been proven yet again with two of their latest programmes winning acclaim.
Videotel’s hard work was rewarded at the film and media arts Insight Awards 2007, with Engine Room Waste Management: Oily Water & Separators receiving an Award for Excellence for "Creativity in an Educational Video". This exciting instalment is part one of four programmes covering the practical details of handling and recording the management of engine room waste onboard. Each detailed programme highlights the importance of following correct procedures and stresses the need to fill out all paperwork accurately to avoid penalties and possible detention. Oily Water & Separators focuses on the sources of oily water, the working principles of the separator and monitor, and controlling the content, so that the separator and oil content monitor can operate effectively. It also includes important features of their operation and maintenance, as well as information on the new generation of separators meeting MEPC 107(49).
Videotel’s LNG Training Course - Meeting SIGTTO Competency Guidelines also won an Award for Excellence, under "Concept: Interactive Media". This effective training program also recently received a Certificate of Compliance from Bureau Veritas (BV). The BV certificate verifies the product’s conformity to the competency standards stated in “Guidance and Suggested Best Practice for the LNG Industry in the 21st Century”, published by the Society of International Gas Tanker & Terminal Operators (SIGTTO).
LNG Training Course – Meeting SIGTTO Competency Guidelines educates deck and engineering officers serving on LNG tankers to comply with the competence standards of SIGTTO. The course was launched in response to the continuing growth of the world LNG fleet and associated crew requirements. Once training is successfully complete, a Videotel Course Completion Certificate is available.
Capt Mike Potts, Videotel General Manager, explains, "Videotel’s LNG training course is designed to help ensure the availability of well-trained and skilled crew, with an ultimate view to enhancing safe LNG operations. With the continuing growth in global LNG shipping, we identified a major demand for a comprehensive training solution and the BV accreditation reinforces our conviction that what we have developed to meet that demand is a very valuable resource."
The new course provides users with sufficient knowledge and understanding of the duties they are likely to undertake on board, enabling them to fulfil the tasks assigned to them safely and efficiently.
Also worthy of note, recent release How Can I Help You? Passengers with Disabilities received a Finalist Award at the New York Festivals in the "Professional Education/Training Modules" category. This programme illustrates the many issues faced by passengers that require additional support from the crew. The programme focuses on the need for greater sensitivity from crew members, so that they can make passengers with disabilities feel more comfortable and secure in order to enjoy the voyage.
